Teacher Horizons is much more than a recruitment agency. We are a community of international educators who connect meaningfully, explore opportunities and share experiences. Our aim is to be a truly valuable ‘home’ for the international teaching community.
Our school visits form part of this vision of collaboration. Teacher Horizons staff coordinate visits with our partner schools when we are in the vicinity; this provides a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our partnerships and to boost the visibility of the schools within our wider community. We share photos and videos of each school we visit on our social media channels to signal to our community members vacancies that might interest them and schools that might be their perfect match.
We invite you to explore the media and reports of our school visits below: they’re a celebration of our partner schools and we hope will provide you with inspiration in finding your next teaching position and international destination.

BIS HCMC is an urban school that knows how to maximise every inch of space. The facilities here are top-notch, offering a wide range of subjects like music, psychology and design. Osaka YMCA International School
Visit date: 11th April 2024
“I had a brilliant visit to Osaka YMCA International School. Located in the heart of Osaka, the school offers a vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich environment for both students and staff. Established in 2001, YMCA responded to the demand for an international school and has since become a highly sought-after institution. It’s no wonder they’ve earned their fully accredited IB status, with their first batch of DP students already graduating.
The thing that stood out to me the most were the incredible programs they offer. In the Early Years, the green-fingered staff lead gardening projects in collaboration with local food banks, creating a beautiful and impactful learning experience. The concept-based PYP exhibitions and the emphasis on student voice in decision-making, like choosing IB subjects, truly sets this school apart. But it doesn’t stop there! Osaka YMCA International School fosters a highly inclusive culture. They have a dedicated inclusion coordinator to support EAL and SEN students, and all teachers play a role in creating a nurturing environment. Plus, teachers enjoy lighter timetables compared to other schools, allowing for ample planning and preparation time.”

Kudos to Principal George Kumazawa for his exceptional hands-on leadership! His dedication ensures that every staff member is heard and supported: a true leader who goes above and beyond to meet their needs.
Can you believe AIC is only in its third year since opening in 2022? Despite being relatively new, it has already fostered a close-knit and caring community. They are committed to nurturing curious minds, enabling students to become inquirers, and embracing creativity in education. I am thrilled to have experienced AIC Kyoto’s warm and inspiring environment. Keep an eye on this growing gem!”

“It was a wonderful time to visit, and not least because it is cherry blossom season, and Japan is looking especially stunning! NIS is located just outside the centre of the historic city of Nagoya, which boasts seventeenth-century castles from the Samurai era. The school is surrounded by green spaces, and there are plenty of nearby destinations for hiking and outdoor activities.
NIS is a non-profit IB school that is shaped by its mission to ‘inquire, inspire, impact’, and it truly lives up to these values. The school follows the IB curriculum throughout, and students take initiative and show leadership in their projects. The school provides a lovely and calm environment where all teachers are invested in discussing the projects their students are undertaking. The Principal, Matthew Parr, is a distinguished school leader in Japan who has worked diligently to create an inclusive and diverse community. From the displays around the school, it is evident that students have the opportunity to excel and enjoy not only academics but also music, drama, and sports.”

“I visited Balboa Academy on the northern outskirts of Panama City in an area called The City of Knowledge, with pockets of jungle and plenty of open green spaces. The school runs from preschool through to 12th grade, following the US standards-based curriculum, and rightly prides itself on its strong community, which was clear from the many smiles and warm welcome offered by staff and students alike!
The director, Ray Durbin, shared the long-held values of the school and the positives of being an Inspired school such as the integration of drama into the curriculum. The tour of the school showed a wonderfully creative library, thriving music spaces, STEM projects in the making and spacious sports areas. “I had a fun and meaningful meeting with Paul Friend, the Founding Principal. Paul founded NLCS in 2020 and the school has seen tremendous growth and success since. Whilst the foundations come from a traditional British model, Paul prioritises cultural diversity, inclusion and a positive learning environment for individuals to thrive in and be their unique selves.
The campus is situated in the south-west of the island, conveniently located for local transportation, community resources and residences. From the outside, the school does not appear very big; however, once you look behind the main wall, you will see a state of the arts school campus, with top notch facilities – a purpose built school, with basketball courts, swimming pool, sports hall, design workshops, art rooms, music studios and even an indoor playground for the youngest children. An excellent school for students and educators alike – one to watch!”

St Francis shares its site with a school for nuns and, as you can see from the photos, it’s green and filled with tropical plants and trees. It’s situated in the heart of the trendy Pinheiros district, buzzing with colourful buildings, restaurants, shops and bars. We’ve placed lots of happy teachers at St Francis!”

“I was hugely impressed after my visit to VERSO School in Bangkok last week. The school truly stands out for its pioneering approach, holistic perspective, and strong focus on design. What makes it unique is its innovative curriculum, which was redesigned in partnership with IDEO, a San Francisco-based organization, making VERSO the first school in the world to adopt their conceptual Design Thinking approach.

“I recently visited Hoi An International School (HAIS). It’s a charming, small but growing school located on the outskirts of Hoi An, a beautiful, historic Vietnamese town frequented by tourists from around the globe. The school is nestled by a picturesque river and lush paddy fields, and it’s only a 15-minute drive from the beach. The campus is green, tropical, and adorned with lanterns, reflecting the essence of Hoi An.
During my visit, I met Kelsie, who heads the HR department at HAIS. Originally from the US, she was previously a Math teacher in Hanoi, where she connected with Emma from Teacher Horizons. Kelsie was incredibly welcoming and gave me a comprehensive tour of the school. I had the pleasure of meeting various teachers and staff members, all of whom seemed to genuinely enjoy their work and life in Hoi An.”

“I was warmly welcomed and shown around Colegio Gran Bretaña by Director Suzanne McLean. Teacher Horizons CEO Alex Reynolds visited the school back in 2015 and described it as ‘one of the nicest schools he has ever visited,’ and I concur!
The school is a beautiful site with cheerful yellow buildings and lots of greenery. It has a small family feeling to it and prides itself on its diversity and inclusivity within both its student and staff bodies. While I was there, I also met with current teacher Mathew Eliatel, who is one of the admins of the excellent Teachers on the Move Internationally Facebook community.”

I was highly impressed by the facilities, especially the excellent FABLab, which is equipped with high-tech tools like robots and 3D printers.
The school has been growing rapidly, from 900 to 1200 students in the last year, and I got a sneak peek into the new building that’s soon to be completed to meet this demand. The design inside is both beautiful and modern.”
